Re: AOL POLL: Should humans go into space?

Next time start your own thread!

You didn't address what the poll was about nor add anything of value to the thread. In fact you killed the topic! If anything I would say you are some unintended conspirator yourself...

So folks, what about it. Today I was interviewed for the Seattle Times (don't expect an actual quote from me in the newspaper). I felt good about what I said, but felt like I was being setup...

Right now there is a movement underfoot to stop NASA's humans into space. "Robots are better! Robots are cheaper! Robots are safer!"

If you feel it is a valid activity for government and humans to be doing and don't want it to stop. And if you live in the USA. Write your congress persons and the POTUS and tell them so in the most polite but firmest way you can. This doe not apply for kooks or carzies! If you live elsewhere and feel the same I suggest every time the media writes a "robots are better!" piece...write back...and tell them the truth! That humans at present do a better job and to remain human we need to explore. Even if it is only Low Earth Orbit!

BTW, the same day and nearly the same hour seven school children died in an avalanche in Canada just a few hundred miles north of me! Do you hear a cry of; "Lets stop people from ski in British Colombia!" This is the second time in two months seven people died in avalanches in BC!

What if these seven poor souls of flight STS-107 had lost their lives driving in a bus after Landing at KSC? Would we now be saying; "Let us stop travel on the roads of Florida!" I don't think so! I know there are differences in the activities and crass as it sounds money plays a great part in why we don't stop skiing or driving... but...if we stop doing space in the flesh we in a sense render all the astronauts and cosmonauts who have ever lost their live meaningless!

Thanks you all for letting me vent...
