Re: USAF Imagery Confirms Columbia Wing Damaged
<Here's the Story
I hadn't heard of Starfire before, but I'm amazed by its capabilities:
The Starfire telescope, which regularly records space shuttles as they pass overhead, can recognize features as small as 1 foot (30 centimeters) long on a satellite 600 miles (950 miles) away, base officials say.
That ought to be able to reveal a tremendous amount of detail about what was going wrong. Does anyone know if they would have been taking still photos or videos of the passage? If the latter, than that's even better, for there are now some marvelous image processing techniques for extrapolating highly detailed pictures from even blurry moving images.
Nathan.
