What size of gouging of the earth surface would it make?
Terminal velocity through the atmosphere is not that fast, even for large chunks of metal. Maybe a couple of hundred miles per hour. Many of the pieces shown are quite lightweight, like tiles, and would make no visible impression. And a lot of the pieces would be going pretty much straight down when they hit, having lost most of their translational velocity high in the atmosphere.
