Thanks for the link. It's kind of spooky seeing what was being discussed the day before the accident. I saw references to those emails in a news article last night but this was the first time I had a chance to read them. The scenario seems plausable if the tiles around the wheel well were damaged. If the gear deployed at Mach 18, the aerodynamic forces would be catastrophic.
