I don't think so
It took time for the Shuttle to break up, at least several seconds. It took time for the crew compartment to come apart, perhaps several seconds more. Without a doubt, they knew something had gone horribly wrong. I do hope that they died quickly and as painlessly as possible. Burning to death or being torn apart is a horrible way to go.
