can never be kept forever, but sometimes can be confused for long enough.
1 year to armageddon = total breakdown of society
1 month = civil war
1 week = confusion and riot
1 day = mere shock
If someone knows the end is coming, and knows there is no cure, they can calm the consequences by not lettinbg on.
I like the first half of "Deep Impact" - no miracle cure, little hope, but humanity does the right thing, mostly. They try their best.
The ending is a sucky happy ending but imagine it without the reprieve. They mostly acted right, tried hard, and went down with honour.
Let's hope we never face this decision in our lifetime (despite EPG's lunacy. the chance of this is less than 1 in 5 Billion ... ... ... 5 billion people are alive today, and none of them has, ever, been killed by a meteorite... ... ... ... there are over 2 billion people who have died since humans evolved, and none of them, despite EPG's lunatic reinterpretation of the Bible, and archaeology, are proven to have died from impacts.)
[ Sure, '"all" the dinosaurs died, but here were less than a billion of them - probably 100 million or less, and they died 65 million years ago. A death rate of 1-10 individuals per year.
For Fuck's sake, more people bleed to death each year after wanking with a vacuum cleaner. Should we start a telescopic search for hand held vacs?
