<As someone who regularly suffers from sleep paralysis, I can see why many sufferers mistake the experience with that of Alien abductions. Paralysis combined with visual hallucinations and feelings of intense fear are common symptoms of this condition. As I am sceptical of aliens and the paranormal I do not relate my experiences with an abduction, however I do see a spirit like entity. I know it is not real, but it seems to be there. If I had believed in aliens before I started having these episodes, I can well imagine that I would be another alien abduction statistic.

I used to experience sleep paralysis and I used to see little figures scuttling at the bottom of my room. at first I thought it was devils or Martians, but then I grew up and realised it was a dream.

These two examples indicate how closely sleep paralysis always accompanies a sense of other entities present.
I believe there indeed are entities present but not aliens - simply disturbed entities. It's rampant in the UK and europe - because these regions are older and have seen more coming and going of folks - or basically they are more "haunted."
The entities may not really be little or, in a material sense, there at all. However at the moment the projected signal interfered with normal bodily control, resulting in the "paralysis" symptoms, the person perceives images or impressions based upon this signal convergance.
All material atoms are not "clean." When one enters the wonderfully weird world of quantum waveforms - we realize that all atoms may indeed have in their structures a passing record of signals which have crossed it over time.
In many ways a single atom may tell it's history if one knew how to extract and decipher these subharmonic wave signals.
Perceiving malicious intent is almost universal among those who experience this interface.
To put it as simple as possible, it is like these people have their radio station temporarily interrupted by local interference.
The cerebral cortex is a great big transmitter. The nervous system is a conduit for signals. The neck and cerebral cortex are the targets of these entities.
The hair raising "chill" on the back of the neck- when discussing the dead - is not really a chill at all. It is a frequency convergance - caused by thinking about something and setting up a resonant condition attracting local discarnate folks.
It's creepy - I know. But no more so than the realization our bodies are bombarded by radio signals, cosmic rays, television broadcasts and the like.
So visit a really old house or place where many folks died - unfit sleep is almost guaranteed. The house or structure itself is literally emanating bad vibes!
It's all very scientific and not a mystery at all. I would venture to say statistically near none of the "abductees" have really been abducted - however almost 90%+ have probably been obsessed (aka mildly possessed) while they were sleeping.
The danger for these folks is by focusing on it and expecting it when they sleep - they are setting up an attunement which makes it easier and easier for this entity or any local spurious signals to gain a foothold.
However awareness of this process and the knowledge that one's own consciousness is the dominant overriding signal in control of one's body - it is possible to immediately disconnect from this violation and have fit and restful sleep.
Kids keep the light on - because light as a bunch of wave forms may indeed act as a sort of "field shield" making these signals weaker and less coherent.
My ten cents,
