It might just look like a bright star.
It's a matter of location. Venus would kill you quick, dead and crispy if you we're on it's surface. Lucky for you, you're on Earth so it's just a bright "star".

Supernovae are potentially dangerous if you're close enough but thats not the case for Eta Carinae, probably.
Another little twist, you can't SEE gamma rays.
