Hmmm, part of this is probably a good Q for Rob L.
With at least the small trackable stuff, could we nail it from high orbit (someday) with a laser and push it into a low enough orbit to de-orbit it?
Even then, what do you do about the grains, though? The stuff you can't track? They could still put a hole in the ISS and/or Shuttle....
The really big stuff you can track and adjust your orbit, but the medium and small stuff is a real problem.
I bet this is an FAQ 'round here....
