A really nasty habit of NASA

is to try and pretend that bad news does not exist, and that if ignored, a problem will simply go away.

There were only 7 people on Columbia. The next assteroid or comet produced impact mega-tsunami will likely kill 70,000,000 people

That's will kill, not possibly kill. The BEST guess is that these have been occuring about once every 1,000 years or so.

Has NASA been spending any money to find out how often these things hit?

Did NASA ignore BEST estimates of Columbia damage?

NASA did not review re-entry options, told the Columbia commander and pilot it was safe, and did not review emergency re-entry and landing procedures with them.

There are a lot of good people at NASA, but sometimes a few NASA employees simply lie to themselves. That's human nature.
Hope its foam, not ice. Hope no small asteroids or comets have hit, and simply ignore the accumulated data.

The problem is when they share their hopes with the public.

Some day the public will catch on. I hope for them it is not too late.
