Rising Impact Risk Escapes Media Attention
<2003 CR20
Has the "Cry Wolf" syndrome set in? The risk for this object keeps rising despite dropping # of potential impact events acording to NASA's sentry system. It started out with a cumulative risk only slightly greater than for the long standing top threat 1997 XR2 (which has had no new orbital data since 1997 to refine risk). Unlike most potential impactors, it has seen its risk grow with additional orbital data. Still unlikely, but strange that the most real near term threat (1 in 600,000) we have found has gotten no attention in the press.
