Re: If you're in the mood for a really long read

However accurate it is, and I'm certainly no expert in the field, Bruce Bagemihl's work has certainly been enthusiastically seized on by gay groups and activists, judging by the web references.

It seems odd that he refers to biologists' "discomfort with" or "studiously avoiding" the subject of homosexuality in nature, considering the immense variety of extremely bizarre and shocking things that occur all over in nature and are routinely catalogued without concern.

While looking up the author, I did locate a quite informative article addressing my question on same-sex attraction vs. evolution here, but I'm not that interested in the subject to pursue it much further. The last paragraph echoes my theory, that if homosexuality is in fact genetic, it must be tied to something that is very useful to the species, and any efforts to "eradicate" the gene would be ill-advised.

Now we've drifted COMPLETELY off topic...unless we want to address a certain poster's obsession with lack of sex in space... ;)
