Space Family Robinson
I had a lot of those comics, and drew my own "space stations" based on the odd H-shaped station in the comic. Mine were, of course, much larger and cooler.
I liked these comics because they had cool painted covers.

God, I love the Internet. No matter what oddball thing you want to know, somewhere out there is someone who has made it his life's work, and has a web page on it.
This page was the first I heard that the original idea may have come from Carl Barks! I'm not surprised.
