The observed accelleration is caused by a normal, previously undocumented force. It is a very weak, repulsive force. It propagates over distances better than gravity. As things move further from each other the effects of gravity fall off more rapidly than those of this new force. The bigger the universe gets, the less pronounced will be the affects of gravity, and the more pronounced will be the effects of the new force.
