The way the population bomb was supposed to explode was:

a) economic collapse
b) mass starvation
c) mass die-off from disease
d) worldwide environmental ruin
e) resource depletion
f) all of the above

It appears(?) that we're in the front end of a world-wide recession but I don't think Option a) is going to happen this time (maybe on the next cycle?).

There's plenty of food so Option b) is a non-option. Starvation tends to occur in Third World countries under expired Marxist governments.

Option c) is happening right now in Africa. Friends and family in South Africa tell me that half the population in that country will die from AIDS in the next 15 years (nothing can stop it from happening).

I'm worried about the oceans. There's lots of examples of collapsed local ecosystems due to over fishing, i.e. cod fish in the North Atlantic, etc. Also the fresh water thing is worrying. However it doesn't look like Option d) is likely to happen soon.

Option e) is a local worry (we're running out of cheap oil). Option e) is actually coupled with Option a). If you have lots of money then you can produce energy from less economical resources, i.e. tar sands, oil shale, etc. However if your economy is shot then these alternative resources aren't usable.

It's unclear to me whether or not the population bomb is real or not.
