Most of human history has been a conflict between one form of tyranny and another. Freedom is a relatively recent invention, and there is yet to be any that wasn't seriously flawed. Magna Carta wasn't about curbing the King's power, it was about preserving the power of the landed gentry. The peasants didn't have a vote.
As for the "concentration of power for kind and beneficial ends", that is nonsense. That may be what they tell the infantry and the widows. but power is concentrated always to improve somebody's financial position.
TB, I know you love to see history as a running battle between freedom loving small businessmen and greedy grasping Statists, but I see it as constant, endless corporate warfare.
