It’s hard to tell if market volatility has increased in the 1990’s. The up and down swings may just appear more dramatic because the raw figures are larger (but the relative percentage increases aren’t). I’d say the boom and bust cycles of the 1960’s – 1980’s really do show up in this graph, though.
As for volume, yes, wow, look at that increase in the 1990’s!
