REAL Surprise! Democrats calling for tax cuts!!

On "Fox News Sunday," Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad (D-N.D.) said he would like to see another tax rebate, or a reduction in the Social Security tax. Other Democrats, including Sen. John Kerry (D-Mass.) are also calling for more tax cuts, in particular for those who are not wealthy enough to pay regular income taxes, but must still pay their Social Security taxes.

Boy, you could have knocked me over with a feather.

Consider this in light of the post I made below. It appears to the casual observer (me) that the Democrats are completely abandoning their whole position on economics. Their somewhat weak gestures in trying to direct tax cuts to "the poor" are overshadowed by the concept of cutting Social Security taxes. Are these the same guys who were screaming about possibly tapping into the so-called Social Security Surplus? Wow!

The attempt by Democrats to assimilate one of the main planks of the Republican party reminds me of those old Bugs Bunny-Daffy Duck cartoons, where Daffy is tricked into screaming at Elmer Fudd, "No! No! Shoot me! Shoot ME!"

Now, what Bush needs to do is hammer through an IMMEDIATE capital gains tax cut. Not only will this stimulate the economy at the top, where it really counts, but the short-term result will be increased activity in taxable capital transactions, which will result in a sudden spike in government revenues, which would deflate the Democratic tirades about dwindling surpluses.

Unfortunately, I don't think Bush is on top of this. It's frustrating, to say the least.
