The US In Panic

The tragedies at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon have sent shockwaves throughout the rest of the USA with other areas of the country starting to shut down.

• The US has partially closed its border with Mexico. The one with Canada remains open - but on a state of high alert.
• For the first time ever the US Federal Aviation Administration has grounded all commercial aircraft.
• All flights to the US have been diverted to Canada.
• The Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral in Florida has been closed and put under a 'Threatcon Charlie' condition - its third most serious level of alert. Buildings have been shuttered and 12,000 workers have been sent home.
• In San Francisco, the Golden Gate Bridge has been closed and police patrols stepped up.
• In Los Angeles workers in major offices complexes have been sent home for the day. The City Hall has been shut and all terminals at the international airport have been evacuated.
• The Disney resorts both in Los Angeles and Florida have both been closed.
• Philadelphia's international airport, the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall and main rail station have been shut.
