Governor Bob Taft issued the following statement on the terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C.:
"At this time of great personal tragedy, our prayers and thoughts are with the families who have lost loved ones in today's senseless and deliberate attacks. Our prayers and thoughts are also with law enforcement, rescue workers and emergency medical personnel working bravely to save lives, as well as with our President and other national leaders.
"The people of Ohio join with Americans across this great country, and our friends and neighbors throughout the world, in expressing outrage toward those responsible for these horrible and inhumane acts.
"Due to concerns raised by today's acts of terrorism, this morning I took the precautionary measure of ordering all nonessential state employees home for the day. The State of Ohio is monitoring the situation to determine if further action is needed. The state also stands ready to assist during this national emergency if requested to do so."
