<Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld just said in his Press conference, that in no way is the US responsible for those bombings in Afghanistan.
I wish it were us, but we don't really know for sure. If it isn't us, then maybe its our allies prepping the area?
I doubt it. Afganistan has been in civil war for years. Neither side is very appealing with the rebels financed with a huge drug infrastructure and the taliban . . . well you know.
Funny thing is that I have made a few arguements in support of the taliban in the past because they had a much better chance of whipping the country into shape and getting the population fed. Keep in mind that I am not entirely sold on the idea that Osama Bin Ladden has ever been responsible for anything, I have had suspicions that we've been using him as a 'Dr. Goldstein', to reference the book 1984, though in a lest sinister way (perhaps its the media doingit.). So I was not sold on demonising the taliban as much (of course there are numerous offenses they do).
However, this is not an attack I could envision us passing off on a scapegoat, it is way to serious. For us to let this pass with a scapegoat would only hurt us in the long run. If we attack anyone over this concertedly I am damn sure that person will truely determined by us to be responsible.
