A senior US intelligence official told MSNBC that several passengers apparently succeeded in overpowering the hijackers, but with the pilots already dead, they could not control the aircraft, and it crashed. Nevertheless, their courageous actions undoubtedly saved hundreds of lives, perhaps saved the White House itself from destruction.
