Your expressions of support have heartened many Americans... And have
touched many deeply.
For now, a simple "thank you"... but we will not forget your genuine
concern. Some of the most enduring, and the only pleasant, images of this
tragedy are the actions of support from our friends.
I talked to a cab driver in California tonight, he told me the sight of of
the "Star spangled banner" being played in England, and Italians marching in
solidarity, made his wife cry something other than tears of horror for the
first time in several days.
We have not always seen eye to eye but there is a common bond that binds us
all- history, basic decency, and an appreciation for human life and freedom.
And that, apparrently, is not forgotten.
I hope we and the rest of the world can work together tirelessly to end this
scourge, for if we don't the scourge will get far worse. This must stop
before we all suffer even more. We are all together in this.
Goodnight, and hope for a better tomorrow... I think we can bring it about-
together.
To our friends and allies
