Central Asian Countries Sign Memorandum on Fighting Drug trafficking, Terrorism
International terrorism knows no frontiers and can be combated only by joint efforts. This is said in a statement adopted Tuesday by participants in the third meeting of the Memorandum on Understanding of Cooperation in Drug Control in Central Asia. The statement was released in the wake of the terrorist assaults on the USA September 11. The document says that the tragic events in the USA testified once again to the global nature of the International terrorist threat and the need for urgent harmonised efforts.
Tajik foreign minister Talabak Nazarov told journalists that drug trafficking was the financial source of war, terrorism, and extremism. The entire international community should put all resources in combating drug smuggling, stressed the minister. Nazarov called Azerbaijan's entrance into the Memorandum an important factor in fighting against drug trafficking. Baku's membership in the Memorandum was announced at today's meeting.
