Leave it to Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson to say something completely idiotic in the aftermath of last week's terrorist attacks.
This only underscores the true evil afflicting humanity - religious belief taken to extreme, irrational lenghths. Of course, Falwell isn't going around murdering people who aren't his kind of Christian, which would be analagous to Bin Laden's operations, but his senseless rantings are nonetheless symptomatic of the darker side of all religious belief, with followers brainwashed, judgement clouded, clear reason and logic subdued by blind faith.
Falwell's comments on the 700 Club, as reported by the Washington Post
"He said an angry God had lifted the protection he previously bestowed on the nation, allowing "the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve."
"Jerry, that's my feeling," Robertson replied.
"I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People for the American Way -- all of them who have tried to secularize America -- I point the finger in their face and say, 'You helped this happen,' " Falwell said."
