Re: Consequences . . .

It's the word "Infinite" apparently.

Remember: Bin Laden was an USA ally until the Gulf War. He could not stand US troops stepping on "Islam soil"and with his money and hatred.....and the rest, we all know.
Even if all terrorists are contained and prevented from acting, the hatred won't simply go away. The terrorists seem to arise from nowhere.
Also, there are many friendly muslim states like Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, the former Soviet states like Tadjikistan, etc..but their population isnt at all sharing their authorities viewpoints about the Western world.
All their leaders are on ejection seats and if the populations feel strong enough, there might be a ripple effect in overthrowing pro-western leaders, as a reaction to long term ground forces presence in one of their countries.
I hope western experts are considering all of this.
The best move is to get resistant movements in Afghanistan to the western cause and have them go and get Bin Laden. They know their own territory much better than any US expert fed with spysat pictures , and they know their own language much better too! If American soldiers go there , a former Russian soldier in Afghanistan said it's going to be far worse than Vietnam.
What there badly needs to be is a dialogue between the western world and the islamic world. it will eventually have to happen. Their single most lethal weapon is
their willingness to die; we can't just eradicate this by declarations or certainly not by threats (they have nothing to loose anyway); what we need to do is to give them a purpose in life, a reason to feel good and they won't feel attracted to religious fundamentalism. This tragedy did not need to happen; it was a human caused tragedy, not an earthquake or an asteroid or a tsunami, but a human caused tragedy and it's up to humans to solve it.
