<Those pilots had the courage of their convictions that in milliseconds they'd be in paradise welcomed by Allah and houris for eternity.

They were plain knuts.

They were brainwashed into believing they were all bound to sit at the feet of Allah, particularly for taking infidels with them in their own deaths. They saw the white death and embraced it -- and I would not put some form of drug "assistance" out as being a far-fetched notion.

Courage was not involved. What was involved was the terror of being outcast by their "holy" leaders for not complying with their instructions, possibly even executed, with never the chance to sit at Allah's table.
