I got the special attack issues of Time and U.S. News, and there are some startling photos in there that I had not seen before. I hope I can get the stupid picture links to work.

The most affecting, at least to me: the limp, serene body of Father Mychal Judge, a beloved chaplain of the New York Fire Department, who was delivering last rites in the destruction zone when falling debris killed him. His body was being borne by fellow rescuers like a fallen Viking hero, which is probably damn close to the truth.

A shot I couldn't find on the Net that was in U.S. News: a telephoto shot of one of the towers, showing dozens of victims hanging out windows ABOVE the zone of destruction. These poor bastards didn't stand a chance.

Another shot I couldn't find on the Net that was a two page spread in TIME: several people diving or falling from a window to their deaths on the street below, one by one, one after the other. The photo shows them hanging frozen in a vertical line in the air.

And some shots from other sources besides these two magazines...no direct links. Click at your discretion. You've been warned.

Another man falling to his death.

A severed hand. Very graphic. What must be remembered is that there are literally tens of thousands of these body parts being recovered as I write this. The environment around Ground Zero is a charnel house. I wouldn't be one of those courageous rescue workers for a hundred thousand dollars.

As the media starts wrapping cotton wool around us to damp our anger, it is a good idea to remember just what was done to us.
