Hi, Dan!
The Canadians are so steadfast and so often forgotten that I don't blame them for getting upset. It won't change their attitude, because they were ever our friends -- well, since the War of 1812 ended, when we invaded them -- and more to the point, they know right from wrong without having to take instruction from anyone. But still.
Think of it this way: It's Mother's Day, and Mom has always been there for you. You're a married man, and your wife's mom is a peach. Your mom-in-law lives out of town, and is visiting on the great day, so you and your wife take her out to dinner. In the excitement, you forget to even call Mom. Does she forgive you? Of course. Is she hurt? You bet. Will she forget? Not on your life. Will she bring it up again at some future date? Depends on what kind of woman she is.
Regards--
Mary Anne
