Saturday, September 22, 2001
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan
Afghan crisis has proved a blessing in disguise for the Pakistani journalists particularly for the journalists hailing from Northwest Frontier Province.
After getting swashing blow at the hands of unknown terrorists on Sept 11, the leadership in the United States panicked to the extent that without have any substantial evidence it started raising accusing fingers at Saudi dissident Osama Bin Laden and announced to retaliate against any country harboring and patronizing terrorists on its soil. Since the US President Mr. Bush and State Secretary Mr.Collin Powell declared Osama as the chief suspect for the attacks launched by suicide attackers on WTC and Pentagon, media-men all over the world set all eyes on Afghanistan. Almost all the known TV networks and Radio Stations instantly sent their journalists to feed latest developments to their respective offices.
At present Islamabad's five star hotels are crowded with foreign journalists and these journalists are straggling to hire services of journalists particularly pathan journalists in a bid to interview different political and religious leaders in Pakistan particularly in Frontier Province bordering Afghanistan. These journalists have started hiring services of these journalists on daily basis of 50 dollars to 100 dollars per day. Most of these foreign journalists have so far failed in acquiring the services of journalists. However, they are straining every nerve to get acquired services of someone particularly from journalist community. In this way it be safely said that these journalists have now come under lucky star. Though Afghans are in straitened circumstances yet country's journalists are making their fortunes.
