This is a generic response, an "open letter" if you will, to TV commentators, pundits, and protestors who are calling for "justice" not "war."
I'm open for suggestions.
I notice that none of these people has a specific idea how to do this. What exactly is "justice?" There is no answer given, unless they manage some drivel about "courts" and "due process." A typical conversation (seen on TV) goes like this: regardless of the question, the anti-war activist says, "we want justice, not war." "What would you do to accomplish this?" "Bring the terrorists to justice."No amount of questioning can get her to become any more specific than this. Her brain is jammed in abstract mode, and steers away from the unpleasant specifics. The word "justice," long a mindless buzzword of the left, has become a conditioned response.
How the hell do we bring "justice" to an international terrorist network? A person with the mentality of a ten-year-old might say, "Capture Bin Laden and put him in jail. That will fix it."
Right. Men who will massacre thousands of people, snuffing themselves out in the process, are going to stop terrorism and go get jobs as farmers because their leader has been put in jail. This is of course assuming we can just drop in, grab him, and waltz back out again.
Wow. "Justice, not War." If only we had know about "justice" during WWII. We could have captured Hitler and put him in jail, and everyone would have gone home for ice cream.
You simply can't deal with some things like you wish they could.
Hey, all you peace protestors. Go ahead. Imagine you had the opportunity to stand in front of Adolph Hitler and his leadership, sitting around that big oak table.
What exactly would you tell them to make them say, "Oh, okay, I see your point. Our bad. From here on, all the Jews in Germany can go back to being regular citizens of the Third Reich."
Well? What words would you use? What arguments? Be creative. Be clever. How do you convince Jack the Ripper that he is not advancing the cause of women's rights?
I'm terribly sorry, but there are now, have been, and always will be, many occassions where war--the delivery of lethal force to an enemy--is the only legitimate response. If we had a magic virus that would only kill bad guys, we would use it.
And, if we are the warmongers everyone is calling us, we are really odd ones.
Please note that, two weeks after the attack, we have bombed no one yet. We have shot no one yet. I think we closed a couple of checking accounts.
America's restraint under the provocation is far beyond what almost any other nation would have done. Please note that we have always, unlike our enemies, gone out of our way to avoid innocent casualties, sometimes to the point of being ridiculous about it.
Please note that with a single phone call, President Bush could eliminate the very memory of the nation of Afghanistan from the face of the earth, and go home for ice cream.
If Bin Laden had hundreds of nuclear warheads, what would he do with them?
We are not the bad guys here. Stop acting like it. And unless you have some really clever idea on how to actually bring "justice" to a worldwide network of terrorists without firing a shot, then maybe your time might be better spent on other subjects.
Justice...
