It was a major mistake not revealing that Zimmerman was beaten. Now the people calling for his arrest (and worse) won't change their minds about his guilt even if found innocent.
I jumped the gun on this by not waiting for the rest of the story. The media ran with "white man chases down and shoots unarmed black youth". Unfortunately it's a believable scenario but they have created a mess.
Zimmerman will have to be brought to trial to placate the angry masses. The question is what verdict the jury will hand down. It could be one where guilt or innocence doesn't matter but the result is purposed to avoid the perception that the system is run by racists.
