Afghanistan is about the size of Texas

according to Newsweek. If you've ever driven across Texas, you know that's a pretty big area for someone to hide. It'd be even easier to hide in Afghanistan than in Texas given the mountainous terrain. Photographic reconnaissance satellites wouldn't be useful because they don't loiter over an area but go humming by in a matter of minutes. Contrary to the idea portrayed in "Enemy of the State", we don't have very many of those satellites in orbit. They cost about a billion dollars each and only have an operational life of a few years. Also, like the MOC, high resolution comes at the expense of coverage area. UAVs could work if we knew when a messanger was leaving. Otherwise, which car or man on horseback do we follow?
