Homesick: K-State dean's hopes of returning to his homeland dimmed by the possiblity of war
Twenty years after leaving Afghanistan, Yar M. Ebadi is thinking a lot about his homeland these days.
Ebadi, dean of the college of business at Kansas State University, is thinking about his family -- his brothers, sisters, cousins, uncles -- still living in the war-torn nation that now may face a conflict with the United States after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C.
Communication with Afghanistan is difficult, if not impossible, he said, and Ebadi doesn't know how to reach his family.
"There's no regular communications, and right now all the borders are closed," Ebadi said. "Mail will not get there. The telephone system isn't in good, reliable condition."
