Round-the-clock operations began last night (Monday) as Kursk’s lift was approved for a Wednesday or Thursday target date and as members of the government commission charged with the salvage assembled in northern Russia to board ships bound for the Barents Sea wreck site.
Russian Vice-Premier Ilya Klebanov arrived on navy flagship and fleet command headquarters Pyotr Veliki (Peter the Great), joining commander-in-chief Admiral Vladimir Kuroyedov and deputy commander Rear-Admiral Mikhail Barskov to stay with the mission until the submarine is raised, Klebanov told journalists gathered in the Arctic port of Murmansk.
