Could just be a mentally disturbed individual...or it could be a terrorist attack. Not clear yet. The use of a knife, the concern with timing, attacking and disrupting a means of public transportation - these factors could suggest terrorism. Or it could be a crazy person 'copy-catting' terrorist methods he's seen on TV. Geeze, that's almost as scary.
Report: Greyhound Driver's Throat Slit; All Service Halted
Bus Crashes In Intersection
NASHVILLE, Tenn., 7:52 a.m. EDT October 3, 2001 -- A Greyhound bus crashed Wednesday morning in central Tennessee after a passenger slit the driver's throat, another passenger told a local television station.
Greyhound is halting all service nationwide indefinitely, a company spokeswoman said.
The crash occurred near Manchester, halfway between Nashville and Chattanooga, on Interstate 24, WTVF-TV of Nashville reported. The local sheriff's office declined to comment, and state highway patrol officials couldn't be reached.
Speaking by cellular phone from the crash site, passenger Carly Rinearson told WTVF that a man who looked to be 30 to 35 years old kept approaching her front seat in the bus and asking what time it was. The man then asked if he could have her seat, Rinearson said.
She said no. Afterward, the man walked up to the front of the bus and slashed the driver's throat, she said.
The bus then swerved off the road and crashed, Rinearson said.
CNN reported that at least 10 people were killed in the crash and that the driver's throat was slit. The Associated Press reported that 4 people were killed. There were 36 people on board the bus.
