OK!
I'm going to tackle four different but related topics, in brief point form.
[A]
(1)American generosity
(2)International gratitude [or lack of it]
(3) 1'st Ammendment
(4) Academic gratitude [or lack of it].
---------------------------------------
First [A], # 1, #2: >The United States generously sent its sons & daughters to
Lebanon in 1983 to [b]TRY & keep the peace and keep the MUSLIM Palestinians from suffering further slaughter at the hands of their enemies in Lebanon.
>The United States sent its sons and daughters to liberate the
MUSLIMKuwaitis in 1991.
>The United States sent its sons & daughters to spare the lives of Kosovar & Bosnian MUSLIMS in 1995, 1999.
How grateful is the Muslim world?
You tell me!...The Saudis don't want the US to use their airbases against the Taliban.
Second: [B], #3, #4.
The US Constitution provides for "Freedom of Speech" as its First Ammendment.
That ammendment allows for offensive
and foolish "speech", and for
well-formulated and wise "speech" as well.
How grateful are Academics?
If those intellectuals and academics who badmouth America were suddenly
denied their "free speech" rights,
I doubt many of them would have the courage to risk death or torture to stand up for the rights they use or abuse...So much for courage of convictions, huh?
