I think the bin Laden-CIA angle is being raised at this time because we are in a position to repeat our past mistakes in this regard.

Y'know, this is the valid criticizm of U.S. Foreign policy in the post-war (WWII) period - that we would train, support, finance or otherwise prop-up any and all who claimed to oppose or fight communism.

The validity of this strategy is arguable, but the blowback from these years is not.

I don't think thoughtful critics of U.S. foreign policy would deny us the right to go after bin Laden, but are making the point, rather, that we should be especially careful about who we befriend, train and entrust in that pursuit.
