”The main condition is the joining of efforts of many countries and sincere desire to work together effectively." -- Vladimir Putin
British Prime Minister Tony Blair arrived in Moscow on Thursday evening to discuss with Russian president Vladimir Putin the expected military action against the Taliban in Afghanistan. As Blair flew out on Friday morning, it was announced that Britain's defence minister is to pay a four-day visit to Russia next week.
Blair and Putin’s talks in the Kremlin were overshadowed by the crash of the Siberia Airlines Tu-154 jet over the Black Sea, which claimed the lives of 78 people earlier on Thursday as Blair was flying from Britain to Moscow.
The Russian authorities have dismissed the claims by US officials that the airliner could have been shot down by a stray missile fired by the Ukrainian navy which was conducting live firing practice in the Black Sea on Thursday. Russian investigators confirmed on Friday that they are treating the crash as an act of terrorism.
