Yes.
Although it could be argued that 911 was not a failure of airport security per se as US airport POLICY did NOT restrict small cuting tools etc. No guns or bombs were smuggled aboard.
Again the solution is...
1. Secure the doors to the crew cabin
2. Some form of arms for the pilots
3. Sky Marshalls on flights
4. Pilots have TV or impact resistant glass view of cabin
5. Pilots prepared to do high-G manoevers admitedly risking some passenger casualties for the safety of those on the ground
