Mazar-i-Sharif
<The opposition Northern Alliance said Monday that its troops have launched a major offensive on Afghanistan's second largest city of Mazar-i-Sharif.
Afghan opposition sources in the Pakistani capital Islamabad said U.S. forces in the region are providing air cover to their troops.
Several of the military analysts on the networks are opining that this may soon be the U.S. staging area in Afghanistan for humanitarian aid and troops if they decide to use them.
