Excellent post on translation and the languages of scripture - a familiar topic recently - and lingua franca (no clue how to form the plural in Latin, so won't try ;-) )
Inspired thereby to drop a nostalgic note about John Ciardi... when I began listening to NPR, a bit less than 20 years ago, he was a regular contibutor to "Morning Edition" with a feature on language.
I miss that as much as I miss Bob Edward's' weekly freeform chat with Red Barber - that is, very much.
