First American casualties reported

Not all casualties are due to combat. One American airman was killed in a heavy equipment accident and another was seriously injured when trapped between two trucks. This kind of thing is common. Hundreds, perhaps thousands of American servicemen died in WWII providing logistics support and doing other non-combat tasks. They died serving their country as are as deserving of respect as anyone.

Airman's Death is Campaign's First and he won't be the last.

The report says the injured man is being treated at the Landstuhl Army Hospital in Germany. I'm familiar with that facility - it's terrible. I hope they stabilize him and get him to a real hospital soon. I wouldn't let that hospital treat a family pet much less someone I cared about. When I was stationed at Ramstein AB, about 10 miles from Landstuhl, the common thought was that unless I was in immediate danger of bleeding to death, I'd take leave back to the States before letting them treat me. A coworker's son was seriously injured in Saudi Arabia earlier this year and treated at Landstuhl (after waiting 4 days for a medevac flight). From what he said, things are just as bad there now as they were 21 years ago.
