I tend to agree with both, as a temporary phenomenon. There is, however, in the long term a serious downside for those proposing the expansion of government programs w/ public spending. Now that the American people have seen close up a 'real' national crisis, it'll be very difficult in the future for political leaders to claim that there's a 'national crisis' in whatever pet social/economic issue they desire to call attention to, as Americans won't be moved much at all by a 'phony' national crisis.
