There's more on the "Mommy Liberty" phenomenon through a quick google search, but basically, 17-year-old Eliza Gauger, a high school student in Washington (that's a state), scanned an image she had doodled and posted it on her web page. A few people saw it, emailed the link to friends -- in a matter of days, the image has fairly circled the globe, has been published in magazines and newspapers, and has now become a product for the relief efforts in New York.
