although perhaps they should. How much did it cost to evacuate the school (lost wages, police response, etc.), bring in the haz-mat team, and do the tests? Maybe he should be fined for that amount. I doubt he'll go to jail. However, what he did is little different than phoning in a bomb threat and that's a serious criminal offense.

Having been a 17 year old male once and having raised two stepsons through that age, I know how stupid the breed can be. Still, given the circumstances, perhaps someone does need to make an example of the ones that get caught. That could discourage other kids from doing such stupid things.

Several years ago, we had a kid here in town who put powerful acid into his teacher's water bottle. She suffered severe and permanent injuries as a result of that little stunt. The case got a lot of press attention and some other kids did similar things - until the first kid was convicted and put in jail. No further incidents happened after that.
