Qaddaffi has always been an odd duck among the terrorist-sponsoring leaders in the Mid-east
Believe it or not, he began plotting a coup in Libya when he was a just a teenager and somehow managed to carry it out a decade later at the age of 27. He preached a bizarre blend of socialism, pan-Arab nationalism, and strict Islam - the Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, whatever the hell that is. I think the hallmark of Qaddaffi has got to be his complete unpredictability - like Saddam, he's undoubtedly mentally unbalanced to some degree.
