Damn thing looks like the tip of a cigar. I mean, if you what to be technical, a fag is actually a cigarette, but c'mon, it works. Besides, it's probably completely justified. The bloke who wrote that bit probably sampled the Middle East's excuse for a tobacco product and was miffed.
thought it was interesting that the AP avoided using the "F" word. Gotta keep war on a G rating I suppose.
