Regretable but unavoidable

Perfection is not a human trait. Like the hippies used to say back in the 1960s, "War is harmful to animals and innocent children." That's why wars should be avoided whenever possible, and when not possible, won as quickly as we can. The longer a war drags out, the greater the suffering for all concerned.

I still stand by my earlier point that we do everything possible to avoid civilian casualties but there's no way to avoid them completely. If we fought this war like we did WWII, we'd be sending B-52s and B-1s over the Afghan cities and carpet bombing the hell out of everyone. No one cried about German or Japanese civilian deaths back then. We aren't doing that nor anything even remotely close.
