"My interest is not to simplify things for the other side but to complexify them, if that is a word," Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld said.

A handful of U.S. special forces are operating in southern Afghanistan, a government official said Friday, opening a significant new phase in America's military response to terrorist attacks.
Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld had said Thursday that airstrikes alone won't be enough to rid Afghanistan of the al Qaeda terrorist network. Ground forces will be needed to root out Osama bin Laden and other terrorists and the Taliban that shelter them, the secretary said, though he made no explicit reference to U.S. ground forces.
A senior government official said Friday that a small number of U.S. forces were supporting efforts by the intelligence community to undermine the Taliban regime. The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said military action in Afghanistan could increase significantly in coming days though there will never be a conventional force the size of that used in the Persian Gulf War.
President Bush refused to confirm the report of ground forces, first published by the Washington Post, but he said, "We will use whatever means are necessary to achieve our objective."

Just going through my glossary of political terms, and I cannot find a reference for “complexify”. I wonder how many dictionaries we’ll need to recall for this administration...
The complexification of is -- mindbuggering,
